Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu inaugurated a multi-storey parking facility at the SDA Complex in Kasumpti, Shimla, on Saturday. The project, built at a cost of Rs 28.37 crore, can accommodate 315 vehicles and is designed to alleviate parking congestion for both residents and tourists in the city.
Addressing Parking Woes
The chief minister emphasized that Shimla urgently needs additional parking infrastructure. He stated that more such projects are planned to tackle the growing vehicle population and limited parking spaces. The new facility is expected to provide significant relief, especially in the busy Kasumpti area.
Broader Urban Development Initiatives
In addition to the parking facility, the state government is investing Rs 246 crore in an underground utility duct system. This project aims to improve urban organization and aesthetics by shifting overhead cables underground. The initiative seeks to enhance Shimla's visual appeal and strengthen tourism by restoring the city's historic charm and natural beauty.
Furthermore, Rs 150 crore has been allocated for widening and improving the Shimla circular road. This project is intended to reduce congestion and improve traffic flow, benefiting both locals and visitors. Sukhu remarked that these developments will help create a more efficient and tourist-friendly city.
