The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday forecast that thunderstorms accompanied by lightning would likely occur in the next few days in the coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema regions of the state. These thunderstorms are expected to provide much-needed relief from the scorching heat that has been prevailing in the region.

Thunderstorm and Wind Warnings

Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are likely at isolated places over coastal Andhra Pradesh (CAP), Yanam, and Rayalaseema. Gusty winds reaching 40-50 kmph are likely at isolated places over CAP and Yanam, while gusty winds reaching 30-40 kmph are likely at isolated places over Rayalaseema on Saturday and Sunday. Hot, humid, and uncomfortable weather conditions are also likely to occur at isolated places over south coastal Andhra Pradesh during this period.

Gusty winds are expected in isolated areas, with speeds reaching 50-60 km/h over north coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam. In south coastal Andhra Pradesh, gusty winds are expected to reach speeds of 40-50 km/h in some isolated locations. Additionally, isolated areas in Rayalaseema may experience gusty winds of 30-40 km/h on May 4 and 5.

Rainfall Recorded

According to the IMD, between Thursday (April 30) morning and Friday (May 1) morning, Tekkali in Srikakulam district recorded 6 cm of rainfall, followed by 4 cm of rainfall each in Kalingapatnam and Pathapatnam in Srikakulam district. Additionally, 3 cm of rainfall each was recorded in Tanakal of Sri Sathyasai district and Pullampeta in Annamayya district.
