CM Omar Abdullah Chairs PMGSY Review Meeting
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday chaired a review meeting to assess the implementation and progress of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) across the Union Territory, with a focus on expediting ongoing works, improving rural connectivity, and addressing bottlenecks affecting project execution. The meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary and senior officers.
Abdullah reviewed the status of PMGSY projects under various phases and took stock of progress made in providing all-weather road connectivity to rural habitations. He was briefed on ongoing works, newly sanctioned projects, and the roadmap for completing pending road and bridge infrastructure.
Emphasis on Quality and Timely Execution
Highlighting the transformative impact of rural connectivity on remote areas, Abdullah directed departments concerned to ensure timely execution of all sanctioned projects while maintaining high quality standards. He stressed the need for close inter-departmental coordination to resolve issues related to statutory clearances and other procedural requirements. He also called for regular monitoring of projects to ensure adherence to timelines and avoid delays.
Officials presented an overview of progress achieved under different phases of PMGSY and outlined the action plan for completing the remaining works. Abdullah directed that all pending issues requiring inter-departmental coordination be addressed on priority to facilitate seamless execution of the programme.
Focus on PMGSY-IV and Remote Areas
The Chief Minister reviewed the implementation strategy for PMGSY-IV and directed authorities to expedite preparatory work so that sanctioned projects are taken up in a time-bound manner. He underscored the importance of extending reliable road connectivity to eligible rural habitations, particularly in remote and border areas.
According to officials, the meeting covered the status of projects under PMGSY-I, II, and III, with a focus on completing pending works. The Chief Minister emphasized that rural roads are critical for economic development and access to essential services in far-flung areas.
