Hyderabad: Telangana Rakshana Sena (TRS) president Kalvakuntla Kavitha has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to remove Union minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar from the cabinet until the investigation into allegations against his son, Bageerath, in a Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) case is concluded. She stated that such a move would reinforce public confidence that institutional integrity and the pursuit of justice for minors remain paramount above all political considerations.
Letter to Prime Minister
In a letter to the Prime Minister on Saturday, Kavitha highlighted that a serious First Information Report (FIR) had been registered against Bandi Sanjay's son under the Pocso Act. She emphasized the gravity of the situation and the need for impartial legal proceedings.
Conflict of Interest Concerns
Kavitha argued that Sanjay Kumar occupies a powerful position as a Union minister. While the legal process will independently determine his son's guilt or innocence, his continued occupation of this office creates an unavoidable conflict of interest. She elaborated that for a trial of this nature to be truly free and fair, there must be no perception of institutional asymmetry or potential administrative influence over police procedures, evidence gathering, or witness protection.
Public faith in the neutrality of the justice system requires that no shadow of political influence hangs over the case, Kavitha added. She stressed the importance of upholding the foundational principles of the Constitution and protecting the integrity of the ongoing legal process by maintaining the highest standards of political accountability.
Background
The Pocso Act is a stringent law aimed at protecting children from sexual offenses, and any allegations under this act are treated with utmost seriousness. The case against Bageerath has drawn significant attention due to his father's position as a Union minister.
Kavitha's demand comes amid growing calls for transparency and accountability in public office. She believes that removing Bandi Sanjay from the cabinet during the investigation would send a strong message that no individual is above the law.
The Prime Minister's Office has not yet responded to Kavitha's letter. It remains to be seen whether the government will take any action on this request.
