Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has drawn inspiration from recent youth-led movements in Bangladesh and Nepal to call upon India's Generation Z to demand accountability in the wake of the NEET paper leak scandal. Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Kejriwal asserted that if students in neighboring countries could bring about political change through collective action, Indian students too have the power to force authorities to take responsibility.
Kejriwal's Appeal to Gen Z
Kejriwal emphasized that the NEET paper leak is not just an isolated incident but a symptom of systemic corruption in the education system. He urged young students to rise above fear and apathy, and to organize peaceful protests to ensure that those responsible are held accountable. "The youth of Bangladesh and Nepal have shown us what is possible when people come together for a cause. Indian students must now raise their voices against this injustice," he said.
Parallels with Regional Uprisings
The Chief Minister drew direct parallels between the recent student-led protests in Bangladesh and Nepal, which led to significant political reforms, and the current outrage over the NEET paper leak. He noted that these movements succeeded because of the active participation of young people who refused to accept the status quo. "If they can do it, why can't we?" Kejriwal questioned, adding that the time for silence is over.
Demand for Transparency
Kejriwal also called for a thorough investigation into the leak and demanded that the government make the findings public. He stressed that the future of millions of medical aspirants is at stake and that any compromise on merit would have long-term consequences for the country's healthcare system. "We cannot allow a few corrupt individuals to destroy the dreams of our youth," he added.
The NEET paper leak, which came to light earlier this month, has sparked widespread protests across the country. Students have been demanding a re-examination and strict action against those involved in the leak. Kejriwal's comments are expected to further galvanize the movement, with many student groups already planning larger demonstrations in the coming days.
