Senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala has stated that the party's workers in Kerala will wholeheartedly accept the decision of the high command regarding the selection of the Chief Ministerial candidate for the 2026 Assembly elections. He emphasized that the delay in arriving at a decision is part of a democratic procedure and should not be misconstrued as indecisiveness.
Democratic Process Underway
Chennithala, a prominent figure in Kerala politics, addressed the media on Monday, clarifying that the party is following a thorough and inclusive process to determine its leader. "The high command's decision on the Chief Minister will be accepted by all Congress workers. The delay is not a sign of conflict but a reflection of our commitment to democracy," he said.
Unity Within the Party
The former Leader of Opposition also dismissed speculations of internal rifts, asserting that the Congress party remains united in its goal to return to power in Kerala. He urged workers to focus on strengthening the party at the grassroots level rather than engaging in debates over leadership.
Political analysts view Chennithala's remarks as an attempt to project cohesion ahead of the crucial elections. The Congress-led UDF is eyeing to wrest power from the ruling LDF, which has been in office since 2016.
Background
The issue of the Chief Ministerial candidate has been a topic of discussion within the Congress party, with several leaders, including Chennithala and KPCC President K. Sudhakaran, being considered potential contenders. However, the party high command has yet to announce its final pick, leading to speculation in political circles.
Chennithala's statement comes as a reassurance to party workers that the decision-making process is on track and that the final outcome will be respected by all factions.
