Palakkad: Forest officials have installed a camera trap in a residential area at Kalikulambu near Kollengode following reports of a leopard sighting. According to forest department officials, the leopard was spotted recently by people along the Kalikulambu–Kachamkurissi road. The animal was reportedly seen moving into a nearby forested area.
The sighting, especially during the daytime, has created anxiety among residents. Forest officials have conducted an inspection and initiated precautionary measures.
The camera trap has been installed on a tree along the route believed to be used by the animal. Officials said the footage would help ascertain the presence and movement of the leopard in the area.
Forest department sources said that if the camera trap confirms the leopard’s presence, further steps, including setting up a cage to capture the animal, will be taken immediately. Residents have been advised to remain vigilant and avoid venturing into isolated areas alone, especially during early morning and evening hours.
