Lucknow: BSP president Mayawati on Friday criticized the daily wage system, outsourcing, and hire-and-fire policies, stating that these practices have made survival increasingly difficult for hardworking individuals. She expressed hope that these workers would see better days ahead.
Labour Day Message
Speaking on Labour Day, Mayawati emphasized that the significance of the day remains undiminished, as despite numerous efforts, there has been no expected or visible improvement in the living conditions of those who toil daily for their livelihood.
“These people have made tremendous contributions to nation building, which Babasaheb Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar recognized, and therefore worked to guarantee a happy and prosperous life for all of them,” said Mayawati. She added that outsourcing, daily wage labour, and the hire-and-fire system have forced the toiling classes of the country to face new hardships and severe employment uncertainties.
Impact on Families
She noted that these conditions have adversely affected the upbringing of labourers' families. Mayawati appealed to all governments to ensure the rightful participation of the labour class in the country’s development.
Buddha Purnima Greetings
Mayawati also extended her greetings on Buddha Purnima and stated that it is the responsibility of governments to focus on and eradicate the problems faced by followers of Gautam Buddha.
“Four times that the BSP formed its government in Uttar Pradesh, it walked on the ideals of Gautam Buddha. The teachings of Buddha are more relevant for the uneducated, exploited, and neglected sections of society today,” said the former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister.
BSP Government Initiatives
She highlighted the works undertaken by BSP governments to preserve and honour Buddha’s legacy, including the establishment of Gautam Buddha University and the Buddh International Circuit in Gautam Buddha Nagar, Baudh Vihar Shanti Upavan in Lucknow, and naming Mahamaya Nagar in Hathras after Buddha’s mother.
Mayawati also mentioned that her government implemented the Dr Ambedkar Samagra Gram Vikas Yojana to improve living conditions in villages lacking basic facilities.
