PM Modi Demands End to 'Maha Jungle Raj' in West Bengal
Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a powerful speech in Singur on Sunday. He declared that West Bengal must end what he called "maha jungle raj" to restore proper law and order. The Prime Minister stated this change is essential for attracting industry and rebuilding investor confidence in the state.
Direct Contest Between Governance Models
Addressing a large rally in Singur, approximately 40 kilometers northwest of Kolkata in Hooghly district, Modi framed the upcoming assembly elections as a clear choice. He described it as a battle between "Trinamool's maha jungle raj and BJP's sushasan." The Prime Minister accused the ruling party of compromising national security through its approach to border issues.
"Infiltrators who have settled using forged documents must be identified and sent back," Modi asserted. He urged Bengal voters to follow Bihar's example in rejecting what he termed jungle raj politics. The Prime Minister asked people to end Trinamool Congress's fifteen years of governance.
Border Security Allegations
Modi made serious allegations about border management. He charged the Trinamool government with hindering efforts to secure the Bangladesh border. "For the past eleven years, the central government has repeatedly written to the state government," Modi explained. He stated that letters requested land for erecting barbed-wire fencing along Bengal's border.
According to the Prime Minister, TMC showed no concern for this security requirement. He connected this to broader issues of infiltration and vote-bank politics.
Promises of Change and Development
Modi made several promises to the gathered crowd. "Your vote for BJP will ensure there is no more Sandeshkhali or theft of jobs," he declared. The Prime Minister accused Trinamool of blocking central welfare schemes including:
- Ayushman Bharat healthcare program
- PM Matsya Sampada Yojana for fisheries
- PM Shree Schools initiative
He alleged Bengal followed the path of Arvind Kejriwal's Delhi government in stopping benefits from reaching people.
Focus on Law and Order for Economic Revival
Despite expectations of references to Singur's history with Tata's Nano project, Modi focused instead on current issues. He linked industrial revival directly to law and order conditions. "Industry and investment will come to Bengal only when there is proper law and order," the Prime Minister emphasized.
He promised that a BJP government would end syndicate tax systems and control rioters. Modi connected this directly to creating a favorable environment for business growth.
Infrastructure Projects and Economic Vision
Earlier in the day, Modi inaugurated and laid foundation stones for port-led development projects worth 830 crore rupees. These included an extended port gate system at Balagarh, about 60 kilometers north of Kolkata along the Hooghly river.
The Prime Minister explained this project would:
- Ease pressure on Kolkata Port
- Transform Hooghly into a warehousing and trading hub
- Attract hundreds of crores in investment
- Create numerous job opportunities
"New markets will open for farmers here," Modi said, highlighting export potential for local agricultural produce.
District-Focused Development Plans
Outlining BJP's economic agenda for Bengal, Modi promised several initiatives:
- District-wise capacity building programs
- One-district-one-product promotion strategy
- Special plastic policy development
- Immediate encouragement for jute packaging
This focus holds particular significance for Hooghly district, which anchors Bengal's jute belt with nearly sixty operational mills.
Appeal to Women, Youth and Education Reforms
Turning to social issues, Modi invoked social reformer Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar. He urged women and youth to become agents of change in Bengal. The Prime Minister made strong statements about the education sector under current governance.
"Children will not get good education or jobs so long as TMC is in government," he claimed. Modi alleged the education sector was under the grip of a mafia. He specifically mentioned Hooghly district being shamed by an education scam.
"If voted to office, we will ensure they are behind bars," Modi promised regarding those involved in educational corruption.
Cultural Achievements and Political Contrast
The Prime Minister credited his government with several cultural accomplishments for Bengal:
- Durga Puja in Kolkata receiving UNESCO's intangible cultural heritage tag
- Santiniketan gaining world heritage status
- Classical language recognition for Bengali
- Installation of Subhas Chandra Bose's statue at India Gate
Modi contrasted this with Trinamool's tenure in the central government. "TMC was part of Sonia Gandhi's government but made no effort. It happened only after BJP formed government in Delhi," he stated.
The rally in Singur comes approximately three months before West Bengal's assembly elections. Modi's speech set clear battle lines between the two major political forces in the state.
