NWU demands impartial NIA investigation into brutal killings
The Naga Women’s Union (NWU) submitted a formal representation to the Director General of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Saturday, calling for a fair, impartial, and expeditious investigation into the abduction, hostage-taking, torture, and murder of six Naga civilians from Konsakhul village in Kangpokpi district, Manipur.
The representation was submitted through the Deputy Commissioner of Senapati district. It expressed deep anguish over the killings, which occurred after the victims were abducted and held hostage on May 13 from Leilon Vaiphei village. Their mortal remains were recovered on June 10.
Victims subjected to extreme violence
Describing the incident as a “profound human tragedy,” the NWU noted that the victims were subjected to extreme violence, with their bodies found beheaded, mutilated, and dismembered. In its memorandum, the union urged the NIA to identify and prosecute all individuals directly or indirectly involved in the abduction, unlawful confinement, torture, murder, and concealment of evidence.
Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh had earlier confirmed that the case has been handed over to the NIA and assured that the perpetrators will be dealt with according to the law.
Union stresses need for thorough, time-bound probe
The NWU emphasized that the case demands a thorough, time-bound, and unbiased investigation, given its gravity and sensitivity. The union seeks justice for the victims and their families, who have endured immense suffering.
