CM Naidu Reaffirms Commitment to Women's Empowerment and Leadership

In a powerful address at the International Women's Day celebrations held at the Amaravati parade grounds, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu declared that empowering women remains a cornerstone of his administration's agenda. He urged women across Andhra Pradesh to actively prepare for leadership roles in public life, particularly in anticipation of the proposed 33% reservation in legislatures expected to be implemented in the coming years.

Schemes and Support for Women's Welfare

Naidu highlighted several key initiatives aimed at bolstering women's status and well-being. He assured the continuation of the three free LPG cylinders scheme, despite rising global prices due to conflicts, ensuring household support remains intact. The chief minister praised women as the source of creation and symbols of hard work, love, and sacrifice, stating, "Where women are respected and worshipped, prosperity naturally follows." He pledged full governmental commitment to advancing women's rights and opportunities.

Promoting Family Unity and Economic Growth

Emphasizing the importance of joint families, Naidu discouraged splitting households merely for benefits like ration or pension. He revealed that incentives are under consideration for larger families, including multiple pensions, triple-bedroom homes, extra ration provisions, and paternity leave. Notable schemes such as Talliki Vandanam, which provides ₹15,000 to mothers, and the Stree Shakti free bus travel program—facilitating nearly 50 crore journeys—were underscored as transformative measures.

Women in Governance and Historical Context

Naidu pointed to the growing influence of women in governance, citing examples like the current tribal woman President and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. He recalled the legacy of former leader N T Rama Rao, who pioneered historic reforms such as equal property rights for women and reservations in local bodies at a time when female representation was minimal. Naidu noted that his earlier decisions to introduce reservations for women in jobs and educational institutions have enabled many to pursue higher education and careers, especially in the IT sector where some women now outearn men.

Entrepreneurship and Brand Initiatives

The chief minister outlined ambitious goals to foster entrepreneurship among women, revealing that the government has already assisted over 1.12 lakh women in establishing MSME units, with more than 33,000 in urban areas. He announced a target to create 5 lakh women entrepreneurs by next year. A new brand, "Swayam," was launched to market products made by women's self-help groups, with Naidu offering to serve as a brand ambassador. This initiative aims to enhance branding, improve quality, packaging, and recipes, with governmental support in marketing and machinery provision. Additionally, 37 MoUs were signed to boost market access, quality, and technology adoption for women-led enterprises.

Safety and Future Commitments

Naidu reiterated the government's dedication to ensuring women's safety and welfare, warning of strict action against harassment. The event was attended by Tourism Minister Kandula Durgesh and Women Welfare Minister G Sandhya Rani, underscoring a collaborative effort to advance women's causes in the state.
