NCERT scholar Danino has expressed surprise over the controversy surrounding a chapter on the judiciary, asserting that the content was accurate and that the organization stands by it. Speaking to PTI, Danino said, 'The title of the particular subsection could have been worded differently. But essentially, the content was correct. We stand by it.'
The remarks come amid a debate over a section in a Class 11 political science textbook that discusses the judiciary. Critics had raised objections to certain portions, but Danino defended the academic integrity of the material.
Danino, who contributed to the textbook, emphasized that the chapter was thoroughly reviewed and based on constitutional principles. He noted that the NCERT has a rigorous process of content creation and review involving subject experts.
The controversy had sparked discussions on social media and among educational circles, with some calling for revisions. However, Danino’s statement reaffirms the NCERT’s position that the content is factually correct and educationally sound.
This incident highlights the challenges faced by educational bodies in balancing curriculum accuracy with public perception. The NCERT continues to stand by its material, while considering minor adjustments in presentation if necessary.
