The Gautam Buddh Nagar police commissionerate has successfully freed encroached land valued at over Rs 5,900 crore during the financial year 2025-26 as part of a comprehensive anti-encroachment drive. This large-scale campaign was executed jointly by the police and development authorities across Noida and Greater Noida.
Campaign Overview
Launched under the directives of Police Commissioner Laxmi Singh, the campaign aimed to remove illegal encroachments from government and authority-owned land while taking strict action against land mafias operating in the district. So far, a total of 13,25,960 square yards have been cleared. Officials confirmed that the drive will continue in the coming months.
Land Recovery by Zones
Data reveals that the largest concentration of recovered land came from the central Noida zone, where 8,89,127 square yards worth more than Rs 5,000 crore were cleared. In the Greater Noida zone, encroachments were removed from 4,21,833 square yards valued at approximately Rs 836 crore. The Noida zone saw 15,000 square yards of land worth nearly Rs 58 crore freed.
Impact on Urban Development
According to officials, these encroachments posed a major hurdle to planned urban development and the execution of government projects in several areas. In many cases, land mafias and encroachers constructed illegal structures on public land, adversely affecting infrastructure and civic development work. Police confirmed that strict legal action was taken during the campaign, with cases registered against multiple accused persons involved in the illegal occupation of government land.
Broader Objectives
Anti-encroachment drives are not solely about land recovery but also aim to strengthen law and order and restore public confidence in the administration, officials added. An officer stated, 'The objective of the campaign is to protect valuable government and authority land from illegal occupation and ensure that such land can be used again for public welfare and development projects.'
Coordinated efforts between police teams and local development authorities played a crucial role in the successful operations across the district. Officials emphasized that action against illegal encroachment and land mafias will continue with full force in the future.
