Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan has strongly cautioned against drawing comparisons between him and a movie star from a neighbouring state who became Chief Minister. In a candid reflection, Kalyan recalled the harsh lessons of the 2019 elections, when he lost from both constituencies he contested and witnessed many of his closest allies abandon him in the aftermath.
Lessons from 2019
Kalyan, who leads the Jana Sena Party, acknowledged that the 2019 electoral defeat was a turning point. He lost from both Gajuwaka and Bhimavaram, and the party's performance was dismal. The experience taught him the volatility of political fortunes and the importance of resilience. He emphasised that his journey in politics is distinct and should not be compared with others who have transitioned from cinema to governance.
Avoiding Comparisons
The Deputy CM stated, "I do not wish to be compared with any neighbouring state movie star who became Chief Minister. My path and challenges are unique." He urged supporters and critics alike to focus on his work and the developmental agenda of the state rather than superficial parallels.
Kalyan's remarks come amid speculation about his political ambitions and the evolving dynamics in Andhra Pradesh politics. His party is a key ally of the ruling coalition, and he holds the crucial portfolio of Panchayati Raj and Rural Development.
The actor-turned-politician remains focused on strengthening his party's grassroots presence and delivering on governance promises, determined to avoid the mistakes of 2019.
