PM Modi Launches Scathing Attack on DMK in Madurai Rally

Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a powerful address at a massive rally in Madurai on Sunday, sharply criticizing the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) in Tamil Nadu. He accused DMK leaders of engaging in competitive corruption rather than public service, while confidently asserting that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) would form the next government in the state.

Allegations of Systematic Corruption

According to reports from news agency PTI, PM Modi contrasted the DMK with former chief minister K Kamaraj, who he said exemplified honesty in politics. "But the DMK is an example of the exact opposite," Modi alleged, listing what he described as multiple major scams.

The Prime Minister detailed several alleged corruption cases:

  • Rs 365 crore cash-for-transfer scam
  • Rs 900 crore cash-for-jobs scam
  • Rs 1,000 crore contract scam
  • Rs 4,700 crore sand mining scam

"Usually ministers compete in good work. In the DMK, they compete in scams," Modi stated, accusing the government of "stealing from the poor, the youth and the farmers." He claimed the DMK had no moral right to continue in power given these allegations.

Historical Grievances and Cultural Issues

PM Modi addressed several historical and cultural issues significant to Tamil Nadu. He noted that Tamil Nadu was the first state to become "Congress-mukt" by keeping the Congress party out of power for six decades. However, he alleged that Congress "took revenge" by giving away Katchatheevu island to Sri Lanka in the 1970s, claiming the DMK did nothing to prevent this at the time.

Regarding the controversial Jallikattu sport, Modi said: "When the Congress-led Centre, supported by the DMK, issued a notification banning the sport, through an ordinance, it was we who ensured Jallikattu could continue." He also highlighted that the Centre honored Tamil culture by installing the Sengol in Parliament.

Response to DMK Criticism

Responding to Tamil Nadu deputy chief minister Udhayanidhi Stalin's remark that the DMK does not fear the Prime Minister "or even if the father of PM comes," PM Modi called this a "badge of honor."

"In a democracy, nobody fears anyone. So, when someone says they don't fear me, they aren't criticizing me; actually, they are appreciating my commitment to democratic values," he explained during his address.

Law and Order Concerns

Invoking late chief minister J Jayalalithaa, PM Modi expressed concern about rising crimes against women in Tamil Nadu. He alleged that families were being destroyed by drugs and alcohol, promising that under an NDA government, "drug mafia and criminals will be behind bars" and women's safety and dignity would be ensured.

The Prime Minister also accused the DMK of delaying surveys under the PM Awas Yojana (Rural), claiming nearly three lakh houses remain pending. "Why should lakhs of poor families suffer for DMK's petty politics?" he questioned.

Infrastructure Development and Temple Visit

During his visit to Tamil Nadu, PM Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for infrastructure projects worth Rs 4,400 crore, according to news agency ANI. These projects are expected to boost the state's development and create employment opportunities.

Additionally, the Prime Minister offered prayers at the Sri Subrahmanya Swamy temple in Tirupparankundram. He also met with the family of a young devotee who died during last year's Karthigai Deepam controversy, demonstrating his connection with local religious and community concerns.

The Madurai rally comes ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections, with PM Modi stating that people had "made up their mind" to bring the AIADMK-led NDA to power in Tamil Nadu. His speech marked a significant escalation in political rhetoric as national parties position themselves for the upcoming state elections.
