Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday dismissed reports that the government is planning to impose a tax on foreign travel, terming them as 'totally false'. Addressing a public rally in poll-bound Gujarat, Modi said such rumors are being spread to mislead people.
PM Modi's Clarification on Foreign Travel Tax
The Prime Minister stated that there is no such proposal under consideration by the government. He urged citizens not to believe in such unfounded claims and assured that the government is committed to the welfare of the people. Modi's remarks come amid speculation that the Centre might introduce a levy on overseas trips to boost revenue.
Opposition's Allegations
Opposition parties had earlier alleged that the government was mulling a tax on foreign travel, citing a report from a government panel. However, the Prime Minister categorically denied any such move, saying, 'These reports are completely baseless and are being spread to create confusion.'
Government's Stand
Senior government officials also clarified that no proposal regarding a tax on foreign travel is in the pipeline. They emphasized that the government's focus remains on promoting tourism and ease of travel for citizens. The denial comes as a relief to frequent travelers and the tourism industry, which had expressed concerns over the potential impact of such a tax.
In his address, Modi also highlighted the government's achievements in infrastructure and economic growth, reiterating that the administration is working tirelessly to improve the lives of all Indians. He concluded by urging the public to verify information from official sources before believing any rumors.
