Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday hailed the Bharatiya Janata Party's historic victory in West Bengal, Assam, and Puducherry. Addressing a large gathering of party workers at the BJP headquarters in Delhi, PM Modi congratulated them and said they had made the lotus bloom.

Today, I respectfully bow to the people of Bengal, Assam, Puducherry, and the people of Tamil Nadu and Keralam. I also heartily congratulate the millions of BJP workers. Every BJP worker, big or small, has once again performed wonders. They have made the lotus bloom.
These were the first assembly elections since BJP President Nitin Nabin assumed the presidency. The guidance provided to every party worker during these elections proved invaluable in this victory.
The results of various by-elections today were also very encouraging. In the by-elections held in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Nagaland, and Tripura, our candidates were blessed by the people and won in these states as well. NDA leader and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar also won a landslide victory.
The people of these five states have shown the world why our India is the Mother of Democracy... Today, not only did India's Democracy win, but so did the Constitution. Today, our constitutional organisations and our democratic processes have won. Almost 93% voting in West Bengal was historic in itself.
I heartily congratulate the Election Commission, all the brothers and sisters involved in the voting process, and especially the security forces. History will forever remember your contribution to maintaining the dignity of Indian democracy.
The Ganga Flows from Gangotri to Gangasagar
Last year, on November 14th, when the Bihar election results were announced, I told you all from this very spot, from the BJP headquarters, that the Ganga flows beyond Bihar to the Gangasagar. And today, with Bengal's victory, the lotus has bloomed from Gangotri to the Gangasagar. Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and now West Bengal. Today, these states, nestled around the Ganga, have the BJP and NDA in power.
In 2013, when the BJP appointed me as its PM candidate, and when I went to Kashi to file my nomination and was surrounded by journalists, a voice naturally rose from my heart. I said, 'I have not come here on my own, nor been sent by anyone. Maa Ganga has called me'... Along with the Ganga, we have been blessed by the Brahmaputra as well. Maa Kamakhya has also blessed us. The people of Assam have placed their trust in the BJP and the NDA for the third consecutive time, a hat-trick.
Vision for Puducherry and Assam
In 2021, we presented the vision of Best Puducherry to the people of Puducherry. The people of Puducherry expressed their faith in that vision and blessed us. Over the past five years, our NDA government has worked with complete dedication and commitment to accelerate this vision. And today, once again, the people of Puducherry have expressed their trust in the NDA.
Today, as a BJP worker, another thought keeps coming to my mind. The soul of Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee must be at so much peace today.
Appeal for Change, Not Revenge
Today, when the BJP has won, the focus should be on change, not revenge. The focus should be on the future, not fear. I appeal to the workers of all political parties: let's end this endless cycle of violence once and for all.
Dr Mookerjee fought a major battle to keep West Bengal a part of India. The dream he envisioned of a strong and prosperous Bengal had been waiting to be fulfilled for decades. Today, on May 4, 2026, the people of Bengal have given us, the BJP workers, that opportunity. A new chapter has been added to Bengal's destiny. From today, Bengal is free from fear. It is filled with the confidence of development.
Criticism of Congress
At a time when the entire country has turned away from communism, Congress is busy embracing the very ideology. The Maoism that is disappearing in the jungles has now strengthened its foothold within the Congress party. Congress is becoming a gang of urban naxals. Congress must not forget one thing, the public will reject anyone who adopts the same ideology that the people have rejected.
