Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit Kanpur during the last week of June or the first week of July to inaugurate and dedicate several major development projects to the public, according to officials familiar with the preparations.
Projects to be launched
The projects likely to be launched during the PM's programme include the elevated railway track, metro infrastructure, and the Lucknow–Kanpur Expressway. These initiatives are part of ongoing efforts to boost connectivity and urban infrastructure in the region.
Preparations for the proposed visit have already begun at the administrative level. On Friday, police commissioner Raghubir Lal and Unnao SP Jaiprakash Singh inspected a potential venue located between Badarka Turn and Jajmau along the Lucknow–Kanpur Highway, designated for the PM's event. Officials, however, said a final decision on the venue is yet to be taken.
Venue concerns and alternatives
With the monsoon expected to arrive around the time of the PM's visit, concerns have been raised about the suitability of low-lying areas that could be affected by rainfall and waterlogging. As an alternative, the railway ground in Nirala Nagar is being considered for the event. This venue has previously hosted public meetings addressed by the PM.
To facilitate preparations, Municipal Commissioner Arpit Upadhyay inspected the railway ground and surrounding areas along with civic officials on Friday. He directed officials to submit a detailed preparation plan within two days. During the inspection, Upadhyay instructed authorities to remove encroachments around the venue and along all approach roads. He also directed officials to clear encroachments from designated general and VIP parking areas, improve cleanliness around the site, and ensure proper arrangements for visitors.
Administrative readiness
The administration is moving swiftly to ensure all logistics are in place. The police commissioner and district officials are coordinating security and traffic management plans. The final venue and schedule will be confirmed after assessing weather conditions and logistical feasibility.
