PM Modi Condemns Bengal Government Over President Murmu Event Controversy
Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a sharp critique against the Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government on Sunday, accusing it of mismanaging an event attended by President Droupadi Murmu. The Prime Minister characterized the incident as a grave insult to the head of state and warned that the Trinamool Congress's "arrogance of power will soon be shattered."
Security Protocol Investigation and Political Confrontation
The controversy has triggered a formal investigation by the Ministry of Home Affairs, which has sought a detailed report from the Bengal government regarding suspected violations of security and protocol norms during the President's visit. Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan directed Chief Secretary Nandini Chakraborty to submit a comprehensive explanation by 5 PM on Sunday concerning alleged breaches of the 'Blue Book' guidelines that govern venue arrangements, security protocols, and route planning for such high-profile visits.
This development has significantly intensified the political confrontation between the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Trinamool Congress, with both parties accusing each other of politicizing the President's visit and the associated tribal community event. Speaking at a gathering in Delhi's Burari area, where he inaugurated development projects valued at approximately 33,500 crore rupees, Prime Minister Modi expressed that the events surrounding President Murmu's visit had "deeply hurt" him. He specifically referenced the timing, noting the incident occurred just before International Women's Day, a period when the nation celebrates the achievements of women.
"Today, when the country is celebrating the achievements of its mothers, sisters and daughters on International Women's Day, yesterday in West Bengal the TMC government gravely insulted the President," Modi stated emphatically during his address.
Allegations of Tribal Event Mismanagement
The Prime Minister focused his criticism on the 9th International Santhali Conclave held in Siliguri on Saturday, alleging that the state government failed to organize the event properly and that TMC representatives boycotted the program. He highlighted President Murmu's tribal background, stating, "President Droupadi Murmu herself comes from the tribal community. Instead of honouring her and celebrating this important tribal event, TMC government left the programme in a state of mismanagement."
Modi further asserted that this was "not only an insult to the President, but also an insult to the Constitution, the spirit of the Constitution and the great traditions of our democracy." He issued a stern warning to the Trinamool Congress, declaring that "the dirty politics and arrogance of power shown by TMC in insulting a tribal President will soon be shattered."

The controversy originated from President Droupadi Murmu's reported disappointment with the arrangements during her visit to attend the tribal conclave. According to sources, the President expressed concerns that the venue had been changed to a location that made it difficult for members of the tribal community to attend.
