Prateek Yadav, the younger son of Samajwadi Party (SP) founder and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav, passed away on Friday at the age of 47. He died due to a lung clot, according to family sources. Prateek had been battling various health issues for the past several years and was under medical treatment.
Health Struggles and Final Moments
Prateek Yadav had been suffering from lung-related ailments and was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Gurugram. His condition deteriorated rapidly over the past few days, and he was put on ventilator support. Despite the best efforts of doctors, he could not recover. The news of his demise has sent shockwaves through the political fraternity, with leaders from various parties expressing their condolences.
Political Background
Unlike his elder brother Akhilesh Yadav, who is the current national president of the Samajwadi Party and a former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Prateek stayed away from active politics. He was known to be a low-profile individual and rarely made public appearances. However, he was closely associated with his father's political legacy and was often seen with him during family events.
Condolences Pour In
Several political leaders, including Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, and Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati, expressed their grief over the untimely demise of Prateek Yadav. They offered their heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for the peace of the departed soul. Samajwadi Party workers and supporters have also gathered at the party office in Lucknow to pay their respects.
Family Legacy
The Yadav family has been a prominent force in Uttar Pradesh politics for decades. Mulayam Singh Yadav, who served as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh multiple times and also as the Defence Minister of India, passed away in October 2022. Prateek's death is another major blow to the family. Akhilesh Yadav, who is currently leading the Samajwadi Party, has been deeply affected by the loss of his younger brother.
Prateek is survived by his wife and two children. The last rites are expected to take place in Saifai, the ancestral village of the Yadav family, with full state honors. The Uttar Pradesh government has announced a day of mourning as a mark of respect.
