Punjab CM Mann Urges Public to Ignore False Claims on Health Scheme

Punjab Chief Minister Appeals for Public Vigilance Against Health Scheme Misinformation

In a firm address from Chandigarh, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Tuesday made a passionate appeal to the residents of Punjab, urging them to disregard what he termed as "malicious propaganda" being spread by "anti-Punjab forces" regarding the state's flagship healthcare initiative, the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna.

Government's Commitment to Universal Healthcare Access

Through a detailed video message, CM Mann elaborated on the ambitious scope of the scheme, which was launched with the primary objective of ensuring that every resident of Punjab, particularly those from economically weaker sections, has direct and unimpeded access to high-quality medical treatment. The scheme represents a landmark effort in public health policy, designed to alleviate financial burdens and promote wellness across the state.

"The Punjab government introduced the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna as a first-of-its-kind program in the entire country," Mann stated, highlighting its innovative approach. "Under this initiative, every resident family in Punjab is entitled to cashless medical treatment coverage of up to Rs 10 lakh, which is a monumental step toward comprehensive healthcare."

Operational Framework and Financial Protections

To operationalize this vision, the state administration has empanelled a vast majority of private hospitals under the scheme. The government has meticulously fixed standardized rates for approximately 2,600 different ailments and medical treatments. These pre-negotiated rates ensure that hospitals are compensated directly by the government, regardless of the higher charges they might impose on private individuals.

Mann emphatically clarified, "Hospitals are duty-bound to provide treatment at the government-fixed rates, and they must ensure that all services are delivered completely free of cost to the beneficiaries. Not a single penny will be charged from the patients, as the government handles all payments directly to the healthcare providers."

Addressing Misinformation and Ensuring Accountability

The Chief Minister expressed deep concern over deliberate attempts to undermine the scheme through falsehoods. "Some anti-Punjab forces, who do not wish to see the people benefit from such progressive facilities, are actively spreading misinformation to discourage participation," he cautioned. He labeled these actions as completely unwarranted and detrimental to public interest.

Mann issued a stern warning to any hospitals that might deviate from the protocol: "If any hospital unlawfully demands money from a patient under this scheme, a formal complaint should be lodged immediately with the state government. We will take strict, punitive, and exemplary action against any institution found engaging in such malpractices."

Scheme's Impact and Global Recognition

Reflecting on the program's success, Mann noted with pride that Punjab has become the first Indian state to offer such extensive healthcare coverage, a achievement that has garnered accolades from across the globe. The scheme has already received an overwhelming response from the public, with numerous families coming forward to avail its benefits, thereby avoiding catastrophic out-of-pocket medical expenses.

"This initiative has provided major relief to countless families who would otherwise have faced financial ruin due to medical costs," Mann affirmed. He concluded with a heartfelt plea: "I urge every citizen of Punjab to remain alert against baseless rumours and to fully utilize this transformative scheme for their health and well-being."
