NEW DELHI: Continuing his party's criticism of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the recurring NEET examination controversies, Congress Member of Parliament Rahul Gandhi on Saturday demanded the dismissal of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Gandhi alleged that the paper leaks under the Modi government had “destroyed the hard work and future of crores of students.”
Congress Leaders Target Modi Government
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also joined the attack, suggesting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should hold a “paper leak pe charcha,” a play on the annual “pariksha pe charcha” event where Modi interacts with students. Kharge further remarked that the government’s “Amrit Kaal” was turning into “Mrit Kaal” for students, implying a period of death rather than nectar.
Rahul Gandhi’s Specific Allegations
Rahul Gandhi specifically criticized Pradhan for reportedly ignoring the recommendations of the parliamentary committee on education regarding the National Testing Agency (NTA). He stated, “The education minister’s negligence has led to repeated paper leaks, compromising the integrity of examinations and the aspirations of millions.”
Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh echoed these sentiments, asserting that Pradhan’s comments demonstrated his unsuitability for the ministerial role. “A minister who disregards parliamentary recommendations is not fit to hold office,” Ramesh said.
Background of the Controversy
The NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) has been marred by multiple paper leak incidents in recent years, raising questions about the security and management of the examination process. The opposition has consistently blamed the Modi government for failing to safeguard the interests of students. The Congress party has vowed to continue its agitation until action is taken against those responsible.
The demand for Pradhan’s removal comes amid growing public outrage and demands for a thorough investigation into the leaks. The Education Ministry has yet to respond to the allegations.
