Ranchi Left Parties and Minority Community Stage Protests Over Killing of Iran's Supreme Leader
In a strong display of solidarity, left-wing political parties and members of the minority community in Ranchi came together on Sunday to vehemently condemn the targeted killing of Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. The assassination was carried out during the joint military action dubbed 'Operation Epic Fury' by the United States and Israel, which has escalated tensions across the Middle East.
Demonstrations Erupt Across the City
Protesters organized demonstrations at multiple locations throughout Ranchi to voice their outrage over the incident. At Albert Ekka Chowk, a significant gathering was led by members of prominent left parties, including the Communist Party of India (Marxist), CPI(ML), and the Communist Party of India. The demonstrators raised powerful slogans against the United States and Israel, calling for an immediate cessation of hostilities and an end to attacks on Iranian civilians.
Manoj Bhakt, the state secretary of CPI(ML), addressed the crowd, stating, "The indiscriminate US and Israeli missiles are resulting in the tragic deaths of innocent citizens in Iran, including vulnerable women and children. It is imperative that the Indian government takes a clear and unequivocal stand by declaring Iran a friendly nation and condemning this aggressive war in the strongest possible terms." Left party representatives emphasized that the operation constitutes a blatant violation of Iran's national sovereignty and sets a dangerous precedent in international relations.
Community Leaders Mourn a Symbolic Loss
Religious leader Tahjebul Hasan Rizvi highlighted the broader impact of Khamenei's death, describing him not merely as a community leader but as a unifying figure for Islamic states worldwide. "His untimely demise represents an immense loss to the entire community and undermines efforts toward Islamic unity," Rizvi remarked. In a poignant display of mourning, community members conducted a procession from Zafaria Mosque to Vikram Chowk, carrying posters of the slain Supreme Leader as a tribute to his legacy.
Rizvi also issued an urgent appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging immediate action to ensure the safe repatriation of Indian nationals stranded in various Gulf countries due to the escalating conflict. The recent attacks have reportedly caused explosions in cities like Dubai, Doha, and Manama, targeting airports and heightening regional instability, which has left many Indians in precarious situations.
Broader Context of Regional Turmoil
The protests in Ranchi occur against a backdrop of intensified Middle Eastern strife, with Iran retaliating through missile strikes that have resulted in casualties, including eight deaths in Israel. Gulf nations, such as the UAE, have publicly called on Iran to "go back to your senses" following assaults on Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha, and Kuwait. This cycle of violence has raised global concerns about further escalation and its humanitarian consequences.
The demonstrations underscore a growing domestic call for India to adopt a more proactive diplomatic role in mitigating the crisis, balancing its international alliances with humanitarian considerations for affected citizens abroad.
