Mangaluru: As BJP supporters across the country celebrate 12 years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's administration, an autorickshaw driver in Kundapur town has come up with a unique gesture of his own. To mark PM Modi entering his 13th year in power, Sathish Prabhu is offering a 13-kilometer ride for just Re 1, a special initiative that will run for 13 days.
While the heavily discounted fare means taking a financial hit, Prabhu shared that the joy of serving the public in the Prime Minister's name outweighs any monetary loss. The 52-year-old has been working as an autorickshaw driver in Kundapur town for nearly 35 years. He started his Re 1 auto service in PM Modi's name from June 9 and will continue the service till June 21.
Prabhu told TOI that being a hardcore fan of Modi, he wanted to do something in return for the achievements of the Prime Minister. “When PM Modi has been serving the people tirelessly and completed 12 years in power, I felt that people also need to do something in return, as a service to society. Hence, I decided to ferry people at just Re 1. Since it is the onset of monsoon, the passenger turnout is also less. However, an average of 25 people have been availing my Re 1 service per day,” said Prabhu, who is an active worker of the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh.
Passenger Somashekar Padukare, who travelled in his auto, shared on social media that he could save Rs 69. “I insisted the driver to take the money but he politely refused and said it is his special offer dedicated to PM Modi’s 12 years of administration,” Somashekar wrote.
