RSS leader appeals Muslims to avoid cow slaughter on Bakrid

Lucknow: National executive member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and chief patron of RSS-backed Muslim Rashtriya Manch, Indresh Kumar, on Wednesday greeted the Muslims on Bakrid and appealed to them to stay away from cow slaughter.

"The Prophet has said that cow's milk and ghee are a cure and treatment. Therefore, we must consume cow's ghee and milk, but not cow meat, so that we may follow the path shown by the Prophet. May there be no violence anywhere on this day. May peace and harmony prevail," Kumar said.

"On the occasion of Bakrid, do everything but stay away from cow slaughter. We are not Muslims or Hindus in India, we are all Indians. We were one, we are one, and we will remain one. Let this message resonate everywhere," he added.

Muslim clerics support restrictions

Muslim clerics in Uttar Pradesh have already extended their support to existing restrictions on cow slaughter, emphasising compliance with the law of the land to maintain communal harmony. Clerics like president of Jamiat Ulema Hind Maulana Arshad Madani and Lucknow Eidgah Imam Maulana Khalid Rasheed Farangi Mahali have even supported the demand that cow should be declared India's national animal.

Appeal for peace and unity

Kumar's appeal comes amid efforts to foster communal harmony during the festival. He stressed that all Indians are one and urged people to avoid violence. The RSS leader's statement aligns with the broader message of peace and unity often promoted during religious festivals.

Eid-ul-Adha, also known as Bakrid, is one of the most significant festivals in Islam, commemorating Prophet Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice his son. The festival involves animal sacrifice, with meat distributed among family, friends, and the needy. However, cow slaughter remains a sensitive issue in many parts of India, where cows are considered sacred by Hindus.

By appealing to Muslims to refrain from cow slaughter, Kumar aims to prevent potential tensions and ensure that the festival is celebrated peacefully. His remarks highlight the importance of respecting religious sentiments and adhering to legal restrictions for the sake of national unity.
