RSS Transfers BJP Leader Hitanand Sharma Back to Parent Organization in Major Reshuffle
In a major organizational development, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has transferred state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) organizational general secretary Hitanand Sharma back into the fold of the right-wing organization. This strategic move marks a significant reshuffle within the Sangh Parivar's ranks in central India.
Sharma's New Role and Responsibilities
Hitanand Sharma, who served the BJP for six years, has been appointed as the head of the RSS' Boudhik Prokosht (Intellectual Wing) regional office located in Jabalpur. In this capacity, he will shoulder the responsibility of overseeing RSS activities across both Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh states. The decision was finalized during an important RSS meeting convened in Indore on Saturday.
Background and Timing of the Transfer
According to sources within the state BJP, Sharma's transfer had been anticipated for some time. The RSS typically does not retain an organizational general secretary within the party for more than five years, making Sharma's six-year tenure an exception that has now been rectified. Sharma, who has a long-standing association with Vidya Bharti, the educational wing of the RSS, first entered the BJP's organizational structure in 2020.
He was initially appointed as co-organizational general secretary of the state BJP when Suhas Bhagat held the position of organizational general secretary. Following Bhagat's removal in 2022, Hitanand Sharma was elevated to take over as the state party's organizational general secretary. This post is widely regarded as the third-most influential position within the state BJP hierarchy, trailing only the chief minister and the state party president.
Broader Organizational Reshuffle
Alongside Sharma's transfer, the RSS announced three other key appointments as part of this comprehensive organizational reshuffle:
- Surendra Mishra, a pracharak (full-time RSS worker), has been shifted to the Purv Sainik Seva Parishad.
- Mukesh Tyagi, another pracharak, has been appointed to the Grahak Panchayat.
- Brijkishore Bhargava has been appointed as the regional Gau Seva chief.
These appointments reflect the RSS's ongoing efforts to streamline its organizational structure and deploy experienced personnel across various wings and initiatives. The reshuffle underscores the meticulous planning that characterizes the Sangh's approach to leadership deployment and organizational management.
The transfer of Hitanand Sharma back to the RSS highlights the fluid movement of personnel between the parent organization and its political affiliate, the BJP. Such moves are often strategic, aimed at strengthening ideological coherence and operational efficiency across the Sangh Parivar. As Sharma assumes his new role in Jabalpur, political observers will be watching closely to see how this reshuffle influences the RSS's activities and outreach in the central Indian region.
