The Supreme Court on Thursday directed Rani Kapur and Priya Kapur, the warring parties in a dispute over a family trust, not to take any steps that may affect the ongoing mediation process. The apex court had on May 7 appointed former Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud to act as a mediator in the matter.
Background of the Dispute
The Kapur family trust dispute involves allegations of mismanagement and breach of trust between Rani Kapur and Priya Kapur. The case has been pending in the Supreme Court, which has been trying to facilitate an amicable resolution through mediation.
Supreme Court's Directive
A bench of Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Sudhanshu Dhulia passed the order after both parties assured the court that they would cooperate with the mediation process. The court warned that any action hindering the mediation would be viewed seriously.
The court also directed the parties to maintain the status quo regarding the trust's assets until the next hearing. The matter is now scheduled for further hearing after the mediation report is submitted.
Mediation Process
Former CJI Chandrachud is expected to hold meetings with both sides to explore a settlement. The Supreme Court has expressed hope that the mediation will lead to a permanent resolution of the family feud.
The case has attracted significant attention due to the high-profile nature of the Kapur family. Both Rani Kapur and Priya Kapur are prominent figures in the business and social circles.
