The Sonepat district police conducted a major anti-crime drive on Monday, arresting 41 individuals allegedly involved in serious offences including attempted murder, assault, and theft. The operation, code-named 'Operation Prahar', also led to the apprehension of 13 bail jumpers and three proclaimed offenders (POs).
Operation Details and Supervision
The drive was launched under the supervision of Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) and Commissioner of Police Mamta Singh, following directives from Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Narender Kadyan. A total of 399 police personnel were deployed, forming 105 special teams to conduct simultaneous raids across the East, West, and Gohana zones.
ADGP Mamta Singh emphasized that special instructions had been issued to all Station House Officers (SHOs), police outpost in-charges, and crime branch officials to ensure the campaign's success. The operation targeted individuals involved in murder, robbery, dacoity, theft, snatching, drug trafficking, and illicit liquor trade, as well as proclaimed offenders and bail jumpers.
Team Composition and Arrests
The police force was divided into 19 crime branch teams, 27 teams from the East Zone, 26 from the West Zone, 24 from the Gohana Zone, and nine teams from the traffic wing. Coordinated raids resulted in the arrest of 41 accused persons. Of these, 11 were caught by crime branch teams, five by East Zone teams, eight by West Zone teams, and 17 by Gohana Zone teams.
Additionally, 13 bail jumpers and three proclaimed offenders were taken into custody and produced before the court. The traffic wing set up special checkpoints across the district and issued challans to 71 motorists for traffic rule violations.
Police Commitment to Zero Tolerance
ADGP Mamta Singh stated that such special operations would continue to curb crime and arrest those involved in criminal activities. She reiterated that the Sonepat police follow a zero-tolerance policy against crime and criminals. She also appealed to residents to inform the police if they notice any suspicious persons or activities in their neighborhoods.
