Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay is set to visit the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) headquarters in Chennai on Tuesday, in what political observers describe as a significant step toward political outreach in the state. According to party sources, the meeting is expected to be a courtesy call aimed at fostering dialogue with senior Congress leaders.
The development comes amid heightened political engagements between the ruling and opposition parties in Tamil Nadu, especially following recent shifts in the state's political landscape. Sources indicate that the chief minister's visit is likely to focus on maintaining political decorum and strengthening administrative cooperation on key governance issues.
Earlier in the day, the chief minister directed authorities to shut down 717 TASMAC liquor outlets located within 500 metres of places of worship, educational institutions, and bus stands across Tamil Nadu within two weeks. Following these instructions, officials conducted a statewide inspection to identify outlets operating in close proximity to temples, schools, colleges, and bus termini.
The survey revealed that 276 liquor shops were situated near places of worship, 186 near educational institutions, and 255 close to bus stands, bringing the total number of outlets marked for closure to 717. Officials stated that the move is aimed at ensuring stricter regulation of liquor outlets and addressing public concerns over the proximity of TASMAC shops to sensitive public spaces.
