Tamil Nadu minister Udhayanidhi Stalin has urged Chief Minister M.K. Stalin to ensure that the Tamil Thaai Vaazthu, the state song, is given due prominence in all government events. In a letter to the chief minister, Udhayanidhi stressed the cultural significance of the song and called for its mandatory playing at official functions.
Importance of Tamil Thaai Vaazthu
The Tamil Thaai Vaazthu, composed by Manonmaniam Sundaram Pillai, is a symbol of Tamil identity and pride. Udhayanidhi argued that giving it more visibility would reinforce respect for Tamil language and culture. He noted that while the national anthem is played at events, the state song often receives less attention.
Recommendations for Implementation
Udhayanidhi proposed that the Tamil Thaai Vaazthu be played at the start of all government meetings, school assemblies, and public ceremonies. He also suggested that it be included in the daily routine of government offices and educational institutions. The minister emphasized that this would instill a sense of pride among Tamil speakers and preserve the state's heritage.
The letter comes amid ongoing discussions about cultural preservation in Tamil Nadu. Udhayanidhi, who handles Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments, has been vocal about promoting Tamil traditions. The chief minister is yet to respond officially, but sources indicate the request will be reviewed.
