Deputy CM Questions Fate of Babri Masjid Funds
Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya on Friday launched a sharp attack on the Congress and Samajwadi Party (SP), accusing them of indulging in appeasement politics. He questioned what happened to the donations collected for the Babri Masjid, demanding accountability from the opposition parties.
Opposition Claims FIR Targets Low-Level Employees
The opposition parties have countered that the First Information Report (FIR) filed in the matter names only lower-level employees, while protecting senior functionaries. This has led to allegations of a selective crackdown.
According to sources, the controversy revolves around funds collected for the Babri Masjid reconstruction after its demolition in 1992. The Deputy CM’s remarks come amid a renewed political debate over the handling of these donations.
Political Reactions Intensify
Maurya stated, "The Congress and SP should tell the public where the money collected for Babri Masjid went. Their silence exposes their appeasement politics." The opposition, however, dismissed the allegations as a diversionary tactic.
The issue is expected to escalate as both sides prepare for the upcoming state elections. The BJP has consistently raised the Babri Masjid donations issue to target the opposition's secular credentials.
