UP MLA's Viral 'Shastra Puja' Video at MP Temple Sparks Official Probe
A video that has gone viral on social media, purportedly showing Uttar Pradesh MLA Raghuraj Pratap Singh, popularly known as Raja Bhaiya, performing a 'shastra puja' (weapon worship) inside the famous Sharda Devi shrine in Madhya Pradesh's Maihar, has prompted the temple and district administration to order a thorough investigation. The incident has raised significant concerns as carrying arms inside the temple premises is strictly prohibited.
Details of the Viral Video and Temple Visit
The video, which is in possession of Times of India, dates back to February 6 when the MLA visited the shrine accompanied by his supporters. According to the footage, Raja Bhaiya allegedly carried a rifle into the temple premises. During the visit, he was seen offering prayers inside the sanctum sanctorum while the rifle, reportedly brought along by him, was handed over to a priest. The priest then performed ritual worship by tying a chunari (a ceremonial cloth) and placing garlands on the weapon.
Temple Rules and Immediate Backlash
This incident has sparked widespread criticism because the temple management committee has explicitly banned the entry of weapons inside the shrine. This rule is prominently displayed at the main entrance, emphasizing public safety. The violation of this regulation has led to public outcry and demands for accountability.
Administration's Response and Ongoing Investigation
Maihar SDM Divya Patel, who also serves as the administrator of the Sharda Devi temple, confirmed that the video came to the administration's notice and its authenticity is being verified. "We are getting the video verified. We received it from external sources as it was circulated online. Taking arms inside the temple premises is banned. We are cross-checking the timing and date of the video with CCTV footage installed in the temple. If it is found to be correct, appropriate action will be taken against those present on duty and responsible," Patel told TOI.
The administration is meticulously reviewing the CCTV footage to confirm the details and timing of the event. If the video is authenticated, strict actions are expected to be taken against the individuals involved, including temple staff who may have been on duty during the incident. This probe underscores the importance of adhering to temple regulations and maintaining sanctity and safety within religious premises.
