Uttar Pradesh Government Launches Mahila Samman Abhiyan to Empower Women
On the occasion of International Women's Day, the Uttar Pradesh state government has announced the Mahila Samman Abhiyan, a special campaign running from March 8 to March 13. This initiative aims to address women-related issues through a series of hearings, awareness programs, and felicitation ceremonies organized in each district across the state.
Inaugural Events in Prayagraj and Lucknow
As part of this campaign, an event was held at Vikas Bhawan in Prayagraj, also known as the Sangam city, on Sunday. The event was inaugurated by Phulpur MP Praveen Patel. A similar program took place in Lucknow, attended by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, and was broadcast online to reach a wider audience.
During these ceremonies, the government honored students who achieved excellent marks in board exams and Lakhpati Didis, women who have set an example of self-reliance through the Aajeevika Mission. In Prayagraj alone, 115,000 women have been identified as Lakhpati Didis, showcasing the success of this empowerment initiative.
Women's Athletics League Promotes Sports Participation
In a parallel effort to encourage women's involvement in sports, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports organized the Women's Athletics League at the Madan Mohan Malviya Stadium in Prayagraj. The event was inaugurated by Chief Development Officer (Prayagraj) Harshika Singh.
The league featured several sports events, including 100-metre, 200-metre, and 400-metre races in various age groups. This initiative aimed to inspire women to take up sports and provide a platform to showcase their athletic talents, thereby raising awareness about the importance of physical activity and empowerment through sports.
Objectives and Impact of the Campaign
The Mahila Samman Abhiyan focuses on multiple fronts to uplift women in Uttar Pradesh:
- Conducting hearings to address grievances and issues faced by women.
- Organizing awareness programs to educate women about their rights and opportunities.
- Felicitating achievers like Lakhpati Didis and top-performing students to motivate others.
By integrating sports events like the Women's Athletics League, the campaign also promotes health and fitness, aligning with broader goals of holistic development for women in the state.
