Northern Railway has announced the cancellation of three passenger trains operating in the Kashmir Valley from July 11 to July 25, 2026, to facilitate scheduled track maintenance work aimed at ensuring safe railway operations.
Affected Train Services
The cancelled trains include services on the Banihal-Baramulla section, a key route connecting the Kashmir Valley with the rest of the country. According to a Northern Railway spokesperson, the decision was taken as part of routine maintenance to enhance safety and reliability.
Passengers holding confirmed tickets for these trains will receive full refunds, as per Indian Railways cancellation rules. The railway authorities have advised passengers to check train status via the IRCTC website, Rail Madad app, or by contacting the nearest railway station for alternative travel arrangements.
Impact on Summer Operations
The cancellations come during the peak summer travel season when tourist and local traffic is high. However, railway officials stated that alternative transport options, including bus services, are available to minimise inconvenience.
“We understand the inconvenience caused to passengers, but track maintenance is essential for safety. We appeal to passengers to cooperate and plan their journeys accordingly,” said a senior Northern Railway official.
Safety First
The maintenance work includes inspection and repair of tracks, signaling systems, and other infrastructure. Northern Railway has deployed additional teams to complete the work within the scheduled timeframe and restore normal services from July 26.
Passengers are encouraged to use the Rail Madad app or call the helpline for real-time updates and assistance.
