Chennai: Complainants visiting police stations should no longer face unnecessary delays in receiving the community service register (CSR), which serves as an acknowledgment for lodging a complaint. This directive comes from the newly appointed Commissioner of Police, A Amalraj, who has instructed city police to streamline the process.
Ending Delays in CSR Issuance
Currently, CSR acknowledgments are not issued promptly at police stations. Station-level officers often await instructions from their superiors before providing the receipt, leading to prolonged waiting periods and heightened frustration among complainants. Commissioner Amalraj’s order aims to eliminate such bureaucratic hurdles.
Surprise Inspections Prompt Change
The commissioner’s decision followed a series of surprise inspections he conducted at police stations across Chennai. During these visits, he observed the delays firsthand and emphasized the need for efficient service delivery.
Amalraj directed officers to provide adequate seating facilities for complainants and ensure that CSR acknowledgments are issued as quickly as possible. He specifically instructed personnel not to force complainants to make repeated visits to obtain receipts.
Inspections and Interactions
Over the past three days, Commissioner Amalraj inspected 12 police stations, including those in Arumbakkam, Anna Nagar, Choolaimedu, MGR Nagar, KK Nagar, and Ashok Nagar. He reviewed operations, interacted with officers about challenges in handling public grievances, and spoke directly with complainants to gather feedback on their treatment and assistance.
Additional Directives
Beyond CSR reforms, Amalraj instructed officers to maintain cleanliness at stations and remove old vehicles cluttering the premises. He also emphasized intensifying efforts to prevent crimes against women and curb narcotics-related offenses. Officers were asked to identify vulnerable locations within their jurisdictions and strengthen surveillance through increased patrols and deployment of personnel in sensitive areas.
These measures reflect the commissioner’s commitment to improving police-public relations and ensuring a responsive and accountable police force in Chennai.
