Chikkamagaluru District Preps for Monsoon: DC Issues Directives
Chikkamagaluru Prepares for Monsoon with Preventive Measures

As the monsoon season approaches, the Chikkamagaluru district administration has initiated comprehensive preparations to address potential crises. Deputy Commissioner Bhanwar Singh Meena has directed officials to identify vulnerable areas and issue timely warnings to residents. Several specialized teams have been formed to manage flood-like situations across the district during the monsoon period. The Home Guard team will remain on standby for immediate deployment. It is mandatory to follow precautionary measures issued by the meteorological department during thunderstorms and lightning. Steps must be taken to ensure no loss of human or animal life.

Infrastructure and Drainage Preparations

The Deputy Commissioner has ordered that drains and canals be cleaned before the onset of the monsoon. Urban and rural local bodies are required to take measures to ensure the smooth flow of rainwater. Nodal officers will be appointed to facilitate rapid response in the event of heavy rainfall. Municipalities, town councils, and town panchayats will keep control rooms operational 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Tahsildars and taluk offices will maintain constant communication to monitor the situation.

Water Quality and Road Safety

Regular testing of water quality will be conducted, and any contamination will be rectified immediately. Gram panchayats will also carry out water quality testing and submit reports accordingly. Action plans will be developed to address problems caused by rain on state and national highways. Any issues that arise will be promptly resolved. In case of trees falling on roads, swift action must be taken to clear them, the DC emphasized.

Coordination and Emergency Response

Local bodies and the forest department must collaborate to remove dangerous trees. MESCOM officials have been instructed to restore power immediately if trees fall and disrupt electricity during rain and wind. Places in the district that have experienced floods in the past must be identified, and advance preventive measures should be taken now. Fire and emergency services must be equipped with necessary safety gear for quick response during emergencies, the DC added.
