Congress Leader's Kin Die in Well Collapse in MP

Bhopal: The mother and wife of a Congress leader were killed after an under-construction well collapsed in Madhya Pradesh’s Rajgarh district on Wednesday. The victims, identified as Rupa Bai, 60, and Pinki Bai, 30, were the mother and wife, respectively, of Congress leader and Janpad member Mukesh Dangi.

Accident Details

The accident occurred in Baman village under Khilchipur tehsil around noon. The two women were buried under a huge mound of soil after the ground around the well suddenly caved in. Officials said the well was being renovated in Mukesh Kot’s agricultural field. RCC lining work had recently been completed and the surrounding soil had been soaked with water as part of the construction process.

Sequence of Events

According to local residents, the women had gone to inspect the work. Gravel used for the construction was lying near the well and they were gathering it when the wet soil around the structure suddenly gave way. The collapse dragged both women into the nearly 25-foot-deep well. Within seconds, large quantities of soil crashed into the pit, trapping them underneath, said sources.
