Delhi Home Minister Ashish Sood conducted a surprise inspection of the Naraina fire station on Wednesday to evaluate its operational readiness, response time, equipment infrastructure, and personnel deployment strategies. The visit was part of a ground-level assessment of the station's preparedness for handling emergencies and seasonal crises.
Inspection Findings
During the inspection, Minister Sood reviewed fire tenders, advanced rescue equipment, communication logs, and emergency deployment protocols. He identified serious shortcomings in the station's functioning and infrastructure. Notably, the station lacked modernisation and several critical operational tools, such as a primary jurisdiction map and inventory list, which were unavailable at the facility.
Infrastructure Concerns
The minister also expressed concern over the condition of the fire station building. He expressed displeasure over the deficiencies and ordered immediate corrective measures. Strict administrative action was directed against officials found negligent in maintaining safety and operational standards.
Interaction with Personnel
Sood interacted with fire station personnel to understand their firefighting requirements, operational challenges, equipment shortages, and structural maintenance needs. He emphasised that the safety of citizens is paramount and no laxity will be tolerated in emergency response capabilities.
Action Plan
The minister instructed senior officials of the Delhi Fire Services to address the gaps identified in technology, documentation, and infrastructure at the earliest to ensure seamless emergency operations across the Capital. He also conducted a detailed review of resource allocation, examining the sanctioned strength versus actual deployment of personnel and advanced firefighting equipment.
According to officials, the review was undertaken to ensure that fire stations across Delhi are adequately staffed, modernised, and fully equipped to meet the emergency response requirements of their respective jurisdictions.
