Dumka: A tractor allegedly transporting illegally mined sand claimed one life and left another person injured near Raidih More (Pabia) on the Govindpur–Sahibganj highway under Narayanpur police station limits in Jamtara district on Tuesday.
Victims Identified
The deceased has been identified as Rajamani Mandal (50), a resident of Jhilua village. The injured person, Parmeshwar Singh, who is in his late 40s and hails from Raidih, is currently undergoing treatment at Jamtara Sadar Hospital.
Accident Details
Both individuals were traveling on a motorcycle when a speeding tractor lost control and collided head-on with their vehicle. After the impact, the tractor veered off and crashed into a roadside tree. The driver, however, managed to jump off the vehicle and flee the scene.
Police Investigation
Sub-inspector Saket Pratap Dev of Narayanpur police station stated, “An investigation is underway to identify the owner and driver of the tractor. The vehicle has been seized.” Authorities are probing the illegal sand mining angle and are working to trace the absconding driver.
The incident highlights the dangers of reckless driving and illegal sand mining, which often involve overloaded vehicles operating without proper safety measures.
