Kanpur DM Inspects Sacholi Ghat Bridge, Deadline Nov 2026

Kanpur District Magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh conducted a site inspection of the Sacholi Ghat bridge, currently under construction over the Pandu river in Narwal tehsil, on Saturday. He reviewed the progress of the work and directed concerned officials to expedite construction, aiming to make the bridge operational by November 2026.

Strategic Importance of the Bridge

The bridge is a key infrastructure project connecting the Defence Corridor and the Ghatampur area with the Narwal Mod–Sadh–Sarsaul route. Its completion is expected to strengthen regional connectivity and provide fresh momentum to industrial, commercial, and local transport.

The project is being executed by the Uttar Pradesh Setu Nigam. A four-lane bridge, along with associated protective works, is being constructed over the Pandu river near Sachauli Ghat in Bhitargaon development block at an estimated cost of Rs 15.28 crore.

Safety Concerns and Alternative Route

During the inspection, the DM noted that the old bridge currently in use has become hazardous and unsafe, causing difficulties for vehicular movement. Keeping this in mind, an alternative route has been arranged, though it too presents certain practical challenges.

Singh directed Setu Nigam officials to complete the project on a top-priority basis. He also instructed the police department to ensure smooth traffic flow on the alternative route and provide continuous monitoring for effective traffic management.

Expected Impact

Upon completion, the project will significantly improve connectivity to the Defence Corridor, Ghatampur, and surrounding areas, while boosting regional development. The bridge is expected to facilitate easier movement of goods and people, supporting economic growth in the region.
