Kerala Home Minister Announces 'Operation Toofan'
Kerala Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala has announced a major anti-narcotics campaign named 'Operation Toofan' to combat the growing menace of drug abuse and trafficking in the state. The initiative aims to intensify enforcement, prevention, and rehabilitation efforts across Kerala.
Key Objectives of the Campaign
The campaign focuses on strict action against drug peddlers, increased surveillance at vulnerable points, and public awareness programs. Special task forces will be deployed to dismantle drug networks, particularly those targeting youth. The government also plans to strengthen de-addiction centers and provide counseling services.
Enforcement Measures
Under Operation Toofan, police will conduct regular raids in suspected areas, including educational institutions, hostels, and public spaces. Coordination with central agencies and neighboring states will be enhanced to curb interstate drug trafficking. Strict legal action, including attachment of properties, will be taken against repeat offenders.
Community Involvement
The campaign encourages citizens to report suspicious activities through a dedicated helpline. Schools and colleges will host awareness sessions, and local bodies will form vigilance committees. The minister emphasized that public cooperation is crucial for the success of the operation.
Chennithala stated that the campaign is part of the state's zero-tolerance policy towards drugs and urged all sections of society to join the fight against substance abuse.
