KMM to burn effigies of BJP leaders against US trade deal

The Punjab chapter of Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM) has announced plans to burn effigies at the offices and residences of senior BJP functionaries on June 24, in protest against the proposed India–US trade deal. The morcha stated that such trade agreements being pursued by the central government are against the interests of farmers, workers, and the common people, and will be strongly opposed.

Upcoming Meetings and Campaign Plans

KMM will hold meetings at Chandigarh on June 25 and at Ludhiana on June 27, where the framework for future struggles and agitations will be finalized. The organization has also resolved to launch a statewide campaign from July 30, 2026, to install banners in every village of Punjab demanding full compensation for losses incurred during the Shambhu-Khanauri Morchas and highlighting the pending demands related to the movement.

Decisions from Saturday's Meeting

The decisions were taken in a meeting of the Punjab chapter of the KMM on Saturday. A resolution was also passed condemning the central government for failing to undertake timely desilting of dams, and the Punjab government for not carrying out the cleaning of canals, and repair of embankments in a timely manner. The morcha warned that such negligence could once again lead to flood-like conditions in Punjab.

Condemnation of BBMB Actions

The meeting also strongly condemned what it described as attacks on Punjab's rights through the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB). A resolution was passed demanding that water be released regularly into rivers in proportion to the inflow into dams so as to prevent sudden flood situations. According to KMM leaders, the current management practices threaten the state's water security and agricultural stability.
