Labourer Dies by Suicide in Phagwara, Investigation Underway

A 32-year-old labourer died by suicide in the Phagwara area of Punjab, according to police reports. The incident occurred on Tuesday, when the man, identified as Raju, a resident of a local slum, was found hanging from a ceiling fan in his rented room. Police were alerted by neighbors who noticed the door locked from inside and raised an alarm.

Details of the Incident

The deceased, originally from Bihar, had been working as a daily wage labourer in Phagwara for the past few years. He lived alone in the rented accommodation. No suicide note was recovered from the spot, leaving the motive behind the extreme step unclear. Police have registered a case under Section 174 of the CrPC (suspicious death) and initiated an investigation.

Police Action

Sub-Inspector Gurpreet Singh, the investigating officer, stated that the body has been sent to the local civil hospital for post-mortem examination. The family of the deceased has been informed and is expected to arrive for the formalities. Preliminary inquiries suggest that the labourer might have been under some stress, but no concrete evidence has emerged yet.
