Mother Dies by Suicide Days After Son's Train Death

A 52-year-old woman, Gayathri, died by suicide at her residence in Thiruneermalai on Saturday, two days after her only son Balaji died by jumping in front of a moving train near Tambaram Sanatorium railway station. Gayathri, a flower seller, lived on South Mada Street and had been struggling to cope with her son's sudden death.

Background of the Incident

Gayathri's husband had died six years ago due to an illness. Her son Balaji, who had completed an ITI course and worked in the construction sector, was married and lived with his wife and two children in Pazhanthandalam. Preliminary inquiries by police indicated that Balaji had been facing family-related issues before his death.

Mother's Distress

Family members said Gayathri was deeply affected by her son's death. Accompanied by relatives, she visited the railway track where the incident occurred and returned home in distress. After returning, she remained withdrawn and avoided interaction with others, according to relatives.
