Key Infrastructure Projects Reviewed in Pudukkottai DISHA Meeting
Trichy MP Durai Vaiko, serving as co-chairman of the Pudukkottai DISHA committee, conducted a comprehensive review of central government schemes during a significant meeting held at the collectorate on Saturday. The session was chaired by Sivagangai MP Karthi Chidambaram and involved detailed discussions with various department officials regarding the implementation progress of multiple development initiatives.
Highway Infrastructure Gets Priority Attention
During the meeting, Durai Vaiko specifically urged the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to accelerate the widening process of the bridge on NH-226 connecting Gandharvakottai to Thanjavur. The MP also sought crucial updates regarding the four-laning project of the Trichy–Karaikudi highway, a vital transportation corridor for the region.
Officials provided a concrete timeline for the highway projects, confirming that tenders would be floated between April and June 2026. This clarification came as a significant development for local residents and businesses who have been awaiting improvements to the region's road infrastructure.
Enhanced Safety Measures for Women and Children
Addressing growing concerns about public safety, the MP directed the district collector and Superintendent of Police to establish an all-women police station in Gandharvakottai. This initiative responds directly to the area's population growth and the increasing need for improved safety measures specifically designed for women and children.
In addition to the police station, Vaiko requested a comprehensive location-wise report of Anganwadi centres operating under the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS). This move aims to ensure better monitoring and optimization of child welfare services across the district.
Railway Station Amenities Under Scrutiny
The review extended to public amenities at the Pudukkottai railway station, where the MP identified immediate maintenance needs. He specifically called for urgent repairs of at least one public toilet and guaranteed the availability of safe drinking water supply for passengers.
These infrastructure and public welfare initiatives reflect the committee's focused approach toward addressing both immediate concerns and long-term development goals in the region, ensuring that central schemes effectively reach the intended beneficiaries.
