NH-44 Entry Point Near Nirmal Kutiya: DC Explores Options

Deputy Commissioner Dr Anand Kumar Sharma is exploring the feasibility of creating an entry point on the main carriageway of National Highway-44 near Nirmal Kutiya Chowk towards the Delhi side to improve traffic flow and enhance road safety. The move comes after the monthly meeting of the District Road Safety Committee, where 17 issues were discussed.

Inspection and Directives

Following the meeting, Dr Sharma, along with officials from various departments, inspected the stretch and directed concerned departments to conduct a feasibility study for the proposed entry point. He also assessed persistent traffic congestion at Namaste Chowk and instructed police to ensure immediate removal of vehicles illegally parked on the service lane to facilitate smooth traffic movement.

Karnal Municipal Corporation (KMC) officials were instructed to install traffic signals at Namaste Chowk and other key junctions to ease congestion and ensure smoother vehicular movement.

Road Safety Committee Meeting

Chairing the monthly meeting at the Mini Secretariat, Dr Sharma emphasized that ensuring safer roads across the district is the administration's responsibility and stressed that no negligence would be tolerated in matters related to road safety. A total of 17 issues, including 13 pending and four new proposals, were discussed.

Dr Sharma instructed officials to ensure all CCTV cameras and traffic lights installed on roads remain functional at all times. He also sought a progress report on ongoing road work between Jundla and Hathlana and directed that patchwork be carried out on the Manjura-Hathlana road until its reconstruction is completed.

Kaithal Bypass and Traffic Personnel

To address traffic concerns on the Kaithal bypass, the Deputy Commissioner asked officials to form a joint team comprising representatives of an under-training IAS officer, a member of the Road Safety Committee, and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to inspect the service lane near Zhilmil Dhaba and examine the feasibility of widening it. He also instructed KMC to construct police posts for traffic personnel deployed at Hansi Chowk and Kaithal Chowk.

Traffic Enforcement and Safety Appeal

Regional Transport Authority (RTA) Secretary Vijay Deswal informed that police issued 29,197 traffic challans in May 2026, collecting fines amounting to Rs 73.20 lakh. The RTA also issued 253 challans during the month, collecting penalties worth Rs 1.11 crore. Under the Safe School Vehicle Policy, 199 school buses were inspected, with challans issued to 12 vehicles for violations.

Dr Sharma urged two-wheeler riders to wear helmets and occupants of four-wheelers to use seat belts. He instructed police officials to take strict action against violators and appealed to citizens not to park vehicles on roads or in no-parking zones, stating that disciplined parking and adherence to traffic rules are essential for making Karnal's roads safer and free from congestion.
