Northern Railway began a two-day Inter-Divisional Safety Audit in the Jammu Division on June 24-25, 2026, led by Principal Chief Safety Commissioner of North Eastern Railway, Neeraj Gupta. The audit prioritizes passenger safety and aims to identify and rectify deficiencies to achieve a 'Zero Accident' operational standard.
Audit Team and Scope
The special audit team comprises Senior Administrative Grade officers from five key railway departments: Traffic, Signal, Electrical, Engineering, and Mechanical. Administrative officers from the Jammu Division are accompanying the team during inspections. The audit focuses on an in-depth assessment of safety procedures, equipment, and operational standards at the ground level.
Detailed Inspection of Jammu Station
The team will conduct a thorough inspection of Jammu Railway Station and its adjoining yard. This includes examining the condition of platforms, foot overbridges, waiting halls, toilets, and other passenger amenities. Signalling and telecommunication systems, track fittings, and the functioning of points and crossings will also be reviewed.
Interaction with Loco Pilots and Guards
Officials stated that the audit team will visit the Running Lobby to interact directly with loco pilots and guards. The discussions will cover working conditions, rest facilities, adherence to safety protocols, and emergency preparedness.
Yard Inspections and Structural Safety
The audit will extend to various yards of the Jammu Division, where loading and unloading operations of goods trains, wagon shunting, lighting arrangements, fire safety equipment availability, and staff compliance with safety regulations will be checked. Additionally, a structural safety audit of important railway bridges will assess strength, track fittings, and maintenance standards.
Commitment to Safety
Divisional Railway Manager, Jammu, Vivek Kumar, emphasized that regular audits ensure compliance with Railway Board safety standards and enhance safety awareness among employees. He stated, 'The technical suggestions and recommendations will be implemented on priority so that rail operations become safer, smoother and more reliable. Jammu Division remains committed to providing safe and punctual services to passengers.'
