Mumbai Traffic Police Imposes Odd-Even Parking in Sakinaka to Ease Congestion
Odd-Even Parking in Sakinaka from May 7 to Aug 6

The Mumbai Traffic Police has announced vehicular restrictions in Sakinaka to address the issue of traffic congestion in the area. In an official statement, the police said, "Local residents, shopkeepers and office employees park vehicles on both sides of Technology Street (from Olympia Building to Gopal Chandrabhan Circle), making it difficult for fire brigade vehicles, ambulances, emergency vehicles and essential services to move. This leads to traffic congestion, and it has become necessary to introduce an odd-even parking system on the road on a temporary basis."

New Parking Arrangement

Under the new arrangement, parking will be allowed on the left side of Technology Street (from Olympia Building to Gopal Chandrabhan Circle) on even dates of every month. On odd dates, parking will be allowed on the right side of the road. The Traffic Police have also prohibited the parking of all heavy vehicles on this stretch.

Duration of Restrictions

The restrictions will remain in force from May 7 to August 6, providing a three-month trial period to assess the effectiveness of the odd-even parking system in reducing congestion and ensuring smooth movement of emergency vehicles.

Reasons for the Move

The decision comes in response to persistent complaints from residents and commuters about the chaotic parking situation on Technology Street. The double parking by locals, shopkeepers, and office-goers had created bottlenecks, especially during peak hours, causing delays for emergency services. The odd-even system aims to streamline parking and ensure that at least one side of the road remains clear for traffic at all times.

Additional Information

Motorists are advised to adhere to the new rules and avoid parking on the wrong side as per the date. Violators may face penalties under the Motor Vehicles Act. The Traffic Police have also urged the public to cooperate and use alternative parking facilities if available.
