Delhi minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday conducted a surprise inspection of the sub-registrar offices in Rohini and pulled up officials for the dismal state of affairs. She expressed strong displeasure over the lack of basic amenities and poor maintenance of the premises, which have been causing inconvenience to the public.
Gupta's Inspection and Observations
During her visit, Gupta found several shortcomings, including broken furniture, dirty washrooms, and inadequate seating arrangements for visitors. She also noted that the offices were poorly lit and lacked proper ventilation. The minister questioned the officials about the reasons for such neglect and directed them to take immediate corrective measures.
Public Grievances and Response
Many citizens had complained about the sub-standard facilities at these offices, which handle crucial property registration and documentation work. Gupta assured that the government is committed to providing a comfortable and efficient environment for the public. She warned that strict action would be taken against officials found negligent in their duties.
The minister also instructed the officials to prepare a detailed report on the required repairs and upgrades within a week. She emphasized that the office should be made accessible to differently-abled persons and senior citizens. Additionally, she called for the installation of CCTV cameras and proper security arrangements to ensure safety.
Reactions and Follow-Up
Senior officials present during the inspection assured Gupta that the issues would be resolved on a priority basis. They cited a shortage of funds and staff as reasons for the delay in maintenance work. However, Gupta dismissed these excuses and said that the government would provide necessary resources if the work was planned properly.
The minister's intervention has raised hopes among residents and regular visitors to the sub-registrar offices. Many believe that the long-standing problems regarding cleanliness and infrastructure will now be addressed. The Delhi government has been focusing on improving public service delivery across all departments.
Gupta also reviewed the status of pending applications and the overall work efficiency at the offices. She urged the staff to adopt a citizen-friendly approach and ensure timely disposal of cases. The inspection is part of a series of such visits by ministers to various government offices to ensure better governance and accountability.
