A section of an under-construction railway overbridge (ROB) near Adas village in Anand district of Gujarat collapsed on Saturday, with no injuries or casualties reported in the incident, officials said.
Details of the Collapse
Preliminary information indicated that the ROB between Vadod and Adas Road stations had been under construction for an extended period. On Saturday, a portion of the approach structure between two pillars suddenly gave way, resulting in significant damage to the structure under construction. Following the incident, officials from the concerned agencies, along with technical experts, rushed to the spot and initiated an inquiry to determine the cause of the collapse.
Official Statement
Vadodara Railway Division public relations officer Anubhav Saxena said the ROB over Level Crossing No. 250 between Vadod and Adas Road stations is being executed by the Gati Shakti Unit of the Vadodara Division, as reported by PTI. Calling it a “minor incident,” Saxena explained that the collapse involved approach girders during construction activities.
“The incident site is located far from the railway tracks. There has been no impact on train operations or road traffic, and no diversion has been required,” he said. Railway authorities confirmed that officials and representatives of the concerned agencies were present at the site and remedial work was underway. Authorities informed that all essential safety measures were being taken to ensure the safe and timely completion of the project.
Investigation and Safety Measures
The inquiry aims to identify the exact cause of the collapse, with technical experts examining the structural integrity and construction practices. Meanwhile, remedial work has commenced to restore the damaged section, and authorities have assured that safety protocols are strictly followed to prevent such incidents in the future. The project is expected to be completed on schedule, with enhanced oversight.
